Recent pics from Rina Koike’s blog, including her recent appearance in Keiji 110kg.  And although we know my translations (i.e. Google’s translations) are legendarily bad, I know that she does mention Mew in one of the posts!  I will investigate!

Thank heavens for PGSM Today!  They clear up all my questions.  Rina Koike and Mew Azama did appear together Pressure Battle, a quiz show that challenges entertainers on their kanji skills.

AND PGSM Today also mentions that Ayaka Komatsu and Aya Sugimoto will be appearing together in a future episode.  Based on this evidence, I am choosing to believe somebody on that show is a PGSM fan.

Rina Koike Casting News - Yakuza Wives

I have three bits of casting news for Rina Koike!  I was going to attempt to cram them all into one post, but it got confusing.  So first up:

(Rina Koike pictured with Tomoka Kurotani)

Rina will be appearing in Gokudo no Tsuma-tachi Neo (The Yakuza Wives Neo) as Sakura Nishizawa.  Sakura is being hunted by Azami Kato (Natsuki Harada), who is married to the boss of the Kato Gang.  Kotone Kiba (Tomoka Kurotani), wife of the boss of a rival gang decides to hide her.

The movie opens June 8, 2013.

PS - If memory serves, Aya Sugimoto appeared in another film for this franchise…. and I am correct.  She was one of the leads in Yakuza Wives: Burning Desire.

Rina Koike in The Serialist

Rina Koike will be playing Ai Kobayashi in the upcoming film “Niryu Shosetsuka” (The Serialist).  It’s based on a novel of the same name by David Gordon.

Ippei Akabane (Takaya Kamikawa) is an unpopular novelist. He barely makes ends meet writing serials novels under different pen names.

Daigo Kurei (Shinji Takeda) is on death row. He killed four women twelve years ago. During his murdering spree, he sent pictures of his decapitated victims with flower decoration to the police. The murders and photos caused widespread panic in Japan.

One day, Ippei is contacted by Daigo from prison. He asks Ippei if he wants to interview him and write his memoirs. Soon, more women are killed in the same grisly manner as the serial murders from twelve years ago. Now, Ippei becomes the prime suspect of the police and Ippei must quickly find the real murderer.

(Summary from AsianWiki)

Rina plays Ippei Akabane’s niece, a high school student whose father is away on business.  She’s living on her own near her uncle and pops in frequently.  This doesn’t sound ominous at all.

The film will be released June 15, 2013.

Rina Koike will be appearing in the stage version of Steins;Gate.  She’ll be playing Mayuri Shiina, childhood friend of the main character.  Her character according to TV Tropes: The Cutie, Cosplay Otaku Girl, Gamer Chick, Genius DitzThe Heart, and Incorruptible Pure-Pureness.  She also has an adorable hat.  Sounds perfect for Rina.

Steins;Gate was originally a visual novel/game released for XBox 360 in October 2009.  It sounds like a lot like 999, but maybe with less nightmare fuel.  It’s also been adapted as manga, drama CDs, internet radio show, a board game as well as an anime TV series and movie.  So I guess it’s kind of a big deal. Awesome!

The play will run from October 12-20, 2013.

(You can read more about Steins;Gate here.  The image of Rina is from Weekly Young Sunday Volume 500.  The image of Mayuri is from here.)

I was finally able to figure out a way to buy Mew’s song from her NHK campaign in 2011!  So now we can all listen to it!  Hooray!

It’s not revolutionary music, but it’s fun and adorable… and it’s Mew so I don’t really care.

Has Keiko Kitagawa married Mukai Osamu? This rumor appeared in the People's Daily on May 6th (Culture section) but I have seen no further reports.

That one I had not heard!  I did a little digging just to see what I could find, and yeah, I found some vague references to the two having tied the knot, but like you said, nothing conclusive.  For what it’s worth, I don’t think it’s true.  I believe nothing until there’s an official announcement after my Rika flub. ^^;

If nothing else, I sincerely doubt that either of their agencies would be cool with the two of them getting married.  Osamu’s fangirl appeal is still pretty strong, and there’s always a fear that a confirmed relationship might seriously injure an actor’s fanbase.

Agencies basically prefer their stars to at least appear available… strongly prefer.  Like they get seriously upset if stars get married/pregnant/cohabitate without their permission.

Keiko’s not really the type to rock the boat in terms of agency relations.  I mean, she didn’t cut her hair for a good 8 years or so because the president of her agency told her not to.  I don’t see her burning those bridges.  They could have serious consequences like losing endorsement deals or getting dropped from projects.  Possibly the agency.

For example, Erika Sawajiri used to be represented by Stardust and was dropped in 2009 for violating her contract… i.e. not saying “how high?” when the agency said “jump.”  (It’s worth noting that her marriage was public and didn’t cause a stir, but it happened pretty quickly after the relationship was exposed in the first place.  And since her husband was 20+ years older than her, there may have been a perception/hope that this would “tame” her.)

Anyway, I don’t know if Stardust is particularly controlling (Johnny’s and Amuse [Ayaka’s agency] both have some kind of scary reputations); they do apparently conduct regular drug tests on their stars, or at least the did in 2009.

Anyway, there are always (sometimes really gross and invasive) rumors about Keiko and her relationships.  I think the tabloids like to publish scandalous rumors about her in particular because she has such a good girl/pure image.

The only reason it’s okay for Mew to openly admit to being in a relationship is because she’s not a big deal idol.  It helps that she’s decided to go towards media personality/spokesperson as opposed to big huge star.  I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that she’s happy with that decision.

This song belongs in a slice-of-life type shôjo anime. That’s how cute it is.
